At this year’s F8 Conference, the main focus seemed to be on upcoming improvements planned for Facebook messenger. Many of these features have a marketing focus making them essential to your online marketing strategy. Let’s take a closer look at these changes and how you can make sure you are ready for them to roll out.
1- Messenger Desktop App Improvements
The first of these updates is probably the most minor of them all, but it still has some importance to anyone using Messenger as a tool in their online marketing strategy. The planned updates to the desktop version of Facebook Messenger will all teams to collaborate on projects, have video conferences, and generally multi-task as they chat. This could lead to more businesses adopting Facebook Messenger as an easy way to share ideas or host online meetings.
2 – The ‘LightSpeed’ Project
Facebook has also announced its plans to redesign Messenger to make it faster and less of a strain for mobile devices in terms of storage. This redesign has been tagged ‘LightSpeed,’ and the end goal is to have Messenger be lean enough that it can launch in less than 2 seconds and which will require no more than 30MB of space to install. It’s a vital element of any online marketing strategy that immediacy and fast loading be addressed for the growing number of mobile users, so it makes sense to address this with Messenger. It might not directly impact marketing, but it will likely lead to more people using the platform as a form of contact, which is something to consider when developing customer service protocols. Now might even be a good time to add Messenger bots and funnels to your online marketing strategy.
3 – Group Video Viewing
If there is one thing that we have been driving home since the beginning of 2019, it has been that video marketing is an integral part of any online marketing strategy. Community viewing is becoming a huge trend, and the popularity of platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Watch continues to grow. One of the upcoming updates to Facebook Messenger will be the ability to view video content in a group. Users can share a video via Messenger to a group of people and chat about it in real time. This is going to be a fantastic tool in terms of marketing. Think of it as a new platform for webinars or podcasts!
4 – Messenger Lead Ads & Appointment Booking
In a statement, Facebook announced that they wanted to make it even easier for businesses to connect with consumers by introducing lead generation templates to Facebook Ads. These would primarily drive customers to simple Q & A in Messenger. They also noted that an appointment booking service would also be implemented within Messenger conversations. Both of these features will have a significant impact on your online marketing strategy.
